Mammograms: 3D (Tomosynthesis) and Standard Digital

ADC imaging services at the North Clinic has added 3D Mammography (Tomosynthesis) to our mammogram offerings.  Traditional mammograms are covered by insurance. However if a patient chooses tomosynthesis there is an additional $40 self-pay expense (plus a $40 to $50 reading fee for ARA).  The extra expenses are considered out-of-pocket as most insurances do not cover with the exception of Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

According the American College of Radiology, breast tomosynthesis (3D mammogram) has shown to be an advance over traditional digital mammography, with higher cancer detection rates and fewer patient recalls for additional testing.  The higher sensitivity may mean more lives will be saved.  And since there are lower patient recalls, that means less short-term anxiety for patients waiting for test results.

Standard digital mammography

  1. Better quality images
Radiologists are able to zoom in to tiny details, which means the results are more accurate.
  2. Fast results
Your mammograms are immediately available to the radiologist and your doctor. They are also stored electronically with the rest of your records, so no films can be lost.

Please call 512-901-4030 to verify clinic hours of operation before your visit.
