Leader of the Month: Cathy Axelsson

Cathy Axelsson Clinical SupervisorMeet Cathy Axelsson, Clinical Supervisor

What departments are you responsible for and how many staff members do you supervise?

I am responsible for Easy Care and Family Practice at Circle C. I currently supervise 14 employees.

What are your goals for your department?

One of our goals is to streamline processes and establish policies in EasyCare to maximize the workflow. The Cedar Bend EasyCare Clinical Supervisor, Erin Nedbalek, and I have worked on a variety of policies to provide standardization between our two locations as well as create a more efficient workflow.

Tell us about your education and/or any special training you have had.

I graduated in 2003 from the University of Oklahoma with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. BOOMER SOONER!  I have worked as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse for ten years prior to joining ADC in 2012.

What do you like about working at ADC?

I really enjoy working as part of a team. I feel that my staff has a strong work ethic and are truly committed to helping patients receive the best possible care during their visit at ADC.

Tell us a little more about yourself.

My father was in the military so I grew up all over the US, but spent the majority of my childhood in the Panama Canal Zone in Panama. My husband, Par, and I moved to Austin from Orlando, FL four years ago. Since moving to Austin our family has grown by two. We have a daughter, Sophia, that is 3 years old and a son, Mateo, that is a year old. My husband and I love to travel. Each July we make a trip to my husband’s home country of Sweden in order to escape the summer heat.

Who has influenced you the most? How did they do it?

I have been most influenced by my older brother, Guillermo.  My brother is seven years older and has always been a role model for me and my younger siblings.  He always helped us with our school work and showed us the importance of obtaining a higher education. He was the first member of my large, extended family to attend and graduate from college.

What is your favorite quote?
