Healthy Thanksgiving: Low Fat Stuffing

Stuffing is a Thanksgiving dinner tradition, but it’s often loaded with fat and calories.

Can you cut the fat and calories of this Thanksgiving side dish without losing flavor?

Kimberly Smith, a health educator for The Austin Diagnostic Clinic’s Weight Loss and Health Rick Management program, demonstrates how to prepare a low fat stuffing that has fewer calories and less fat, and it even uses whole grains.

Here are the ingredients you will need to prepare this dish:

  • 1 loaf whole grain bread, cubed and toasted
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, diced
  • 1/2 cup apple, chopped
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 8 oz. vegetable or chicken broth
