Austin is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World”

If you’re considering moving to Austin, you’ll learn what Central Texans already know:  Austin is a hip, fun place for families, couples and singles alike. Austin has something for everyone, from a vibrant nightlife to family-friendly events.

There’s so much going on in Austin, you’re sure to find something that appeals to you.

Music and More

We may call ourselves “weird” in Austin, but we take music pretty seriously. Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World. We have nearly 200 music venues and we’re home to South By Southwest and the Austin City Limit Music Festival, as well as many other music events.

Austin is also a home for performing arts, including Ballet Austin, the Austin Lyric Opera and the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Festivals and Events

We love to celebrate in Austin. There are hundreds of events and festivals. Theater lovers may want to check out FronteraFest, a festival showcasing more than 100 performances over a month.  There’s also the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, which kicks off with the annual cowboy breakfast.

Other events include the quirky Eeyore’s Birthday Party, the Austin Food & Wine Festival, Batfest, and the Texas Book Festival, just to name a few. Check out more events at austineventsandfestivals.com.

There’s always something to do with the kids in Austin. The city plays host to hundreds of family-friendly events throughout the year, from the Zilker Kite Festival in March to the Austin Ice Cream Festival. But there are year-round activities too, like exploring Texas History at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum or canoeing on Lady Bird Lake.

Excellent Education

Austin is home to The University of Texas at Austin, one of the largest and most respected universities in the nation. The campus is located in the heart of Austin, just north of the State Capitol. It’s known for its academics as well as athletics, and many, though not all, in Austin consider themselves Texas Longhorns fans.

For primary and secondary education, the Austin Independent School District educates more than 86,500 students on 124 campuses across the district, including 23 exemplary and 33 recognized schools. Surrounding districts, such as Round Rock ISDLeander ISD and Eanes ISD also have numerous recognized and exemplary schools according to the federal accountability system.

For People Who Love to Eat

From a diverse trailer food scene to high dining, if you’re craving it, you can find it in Austin.  Plus, there are many food festivals in and around town for food lovers, including the Austin Ice Cream Festival and Fredericksburg Food and Wine Fest.  Check out some of Austin’s favorite neighborhood restaurants here.

Active Lifestyles

We love to spend time outside in Austin. You’ll see people out and about during the hottest days of summer as well as the mild days of winter.

Thousands turn out to run in the Austin Marathon, the Capital 10,000 and the Turkey Trot. We’re proud of our many parks, golf courses and swimming holes, including Barton Springs Pool and Hamilton Pool. And walkers, runners and cyclists all enjoy the extensive trail systems, especially the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail around Lady Bird Lake.
