Bite-size candy or big handful of calories?

Halloween marks the beginning of the holiday season “calorie creep”

First it’s Halloween, then Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s and between candy jars, holiday and office parties, it’s easy for the calories to begin creeping into your diet.   ADC’s Health Risk Management team put together a “bite-size” candy calorie chart (PDF) for easy identification of calorie intake. Sure those bite-size candies are small, but before you know it 2-3 or more can add up to big calories.

What can you do to burn off those “creepy calories”?

ADC HRM Educator Ani Aroian recommends the following:

  1. 9 Minutes on an elliptical will burn off 80 calories or one bite-size Milky Way.
  2. Hike for 13 minutes to burn off the 90 calories in a fun-size packet of peanut M&Ms.
  3. Jog for 7 minutes to burn off one Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup or 87 calories.
  4. 15 minutes of dancing will help whittle away that mini Hershey’s chocolate bar.
  5. Zumba that 87 calorie Baby Ruth off your hips in 10 minutes.

As with all things, knowledge is prevention and moderation is best.  And if you need help with weight loss or weight management, the ADC HRM team is here for you.  We have office hours at ADC North and ADC Westlake.
