What is a NAMS Menopause Practitioner?

According to the NAMS website, a menopause practitioner is a healthcare provider who has demonstrated expertise in their field and have been awarded the credential NCMP.  the certification is valid for three years and must be maintained by passing the exam again or submitting continuing medical education credits that demonstrate ongoing education in the field of menopause.

Margaret Adams began working in the Menopause and Osteoporosis Clinic with Dr. Michele McDermott and Dr. Mary Gasal in January of 2014.  Prior to that she worked as a women’s health nurse practitioner with the ADC Ob/Gyn department for many years.   The Menopause and Osteoporosis Center was founded by Dr. McDermott and maintains a high standard of excellence for care.  Ms. Adams was encouraged to pursue certification and began studying for the exam in February.   Drs. McDermott and Gasal helped prepare Ms. Adams for the exam which she took in mid-May and received her certification a month later.

The ADC Menopause and Osteoporosis Center provider and physicians are now all certified by the North American Menopause Society.   In Austin, there is only one other NAMS certified physician and provider outside of ADC.

Why is it important to see a NAMS certified physician or provider?

Women who are experiencing Menopause and beyond deserve the best care possible. Menopause is an uncertain time and many women want a provider who really understands what they are experiencing.  At The Austin Diagnostic Clinic Menopause and Osteoporosis Center we want our patients to have the confidence in their care by seeing doctors and providers who recognize the signs, symptoms and can provide the latest treatments and information for women.
