Hematology and Oncology at The Austin Diagnostic Clinic

What is Hematology and Oncology?

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of blood, blood-forming organs, and blood diseases and disorders. Blood diseases affect the production of blood and its components, such as blood cells, hemoglobin, blood proteins, the mechanism of coagulation and more.

Oncology is the branch of medicine that deals with tumors (cancer). Oncologists diagnose the cellular type, extent of spread, and the staging of all types of cancer. They coordinate surgery, imaging, radiation and chemotherapy care for patients and provide follow-up surveillance after treatment.

The ADC Hematology/Oncology physicians work closely with our patients to identify the cause of your symptoms and to find the treatment option that will produce the best results for you. Our doctors also work with the physicians of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to enroll cancer patients in clinical trials when appropriate, and coordinate ongoing care when needed.
