You've got questions, we have answers!
What is the
Health Risk Management philosophy?
The HRM program
is delivered by professionally trained health professionals.
Participants follow a diet using meal replacements that makes weight
loss as easy as possible. The program teaches long-term lifestyle
changes that produce successful weight and health management. In
fact, active Maintenance patients are keeping of an average of 46
pounds (19% of initial body weight) more than two years after
weight-loss.

Why does
this program use meal replacements?
The research is clear.
More than 50 published references show that people using meal
replacements lose and keep off, an average three times more weight
than those on conventional diets. Meal replacements help clients
take the guesswork out of dieting, providing them with a convenient
and satisfying way to eat.
For example,
having an HRM shake for breakfast instead of a muffin and a HRM
entrée with two servings of vegetables for dinner in lieu of a
typical fast food meal would save someone approximately 1,600
calories a day. Making these two simple changes once a week for a
year would result in a 2-4 pound weight loss.
Why does
HRM’s structured weight-loss program work? There are three simple reasons:
-
The HRM program focuses only on research-based variables. Each of
these variables independently have been shown to have a direct
effect on successful weight loss and maintenance. When practiced
together, there is an even more pronounced, cumulative effect.
-
Losing and keeping off weight is a skill, much like learning to play
an instrument or a new sport. It is only logical, therefore, to
approach weight management with the same structure one would apply
to any new skill. That includes a continuous cycle of lessons,
practice, and feedback. That’s exactly how the HRM program is
structured.
-
HRM health educators are highly trained professionals. To supplement
their past professional training, all health educators receive
intensive initial training, and more than 25 hours of continuing
education each year.
How can I
learn to eat in the “real world” with meal replacements?
Eating in the “real
world” is what has most Americans overweight. HRM meal replacements
are real food and are a healthier way to eat, manage calories, lose
weight, and add more nutrition to one’s diet.
How does the
HRM program work? The HRM Program focuses
on five research-based success variables including an ongoing
supportive structure and feedback:
 |
weekly classes
|
 |
record-keeping
|
 |
physical activity
|
 |
meal replacements vegetables
and fruits |
How do I get
started? The first step to
entering the HRM program is to attend a free orientation. We will
describe the diet options available, program involvement, medical
supervision and cost and insurance. After the orientation we can
proceed with the necessary medical induction process and enroll you
in an upcoming class. A new class starts every month.
Can I
purchase the meal replacements without joining the program?
All HRM meal replacement
shakes, entrees, and bars are available to the public and can be
purchased at Austin Diagnostic Clinic. However, we advise that
nobody attempts an all meal replacement very low calorie diet
without the appropriate medical supervision.
Who will
provide my medical supervision? The Austin Diagnostic
Clinic Endocrinologists are specialized in the HRM program. They
follow a medical protocol, which includes routine doctor visits,
checking of vital signs, and the appropriate lab work and EKG’s.
Can
I do the diet and receive medical supervision without attending the
classes? The HRM program
provides effective diets and medical supervision. However, the
lifestyle adjustment that is necessary for individuals losing weight
and maintaining weight loss is provided through the lifestyle and
behavioral education classes. All the program components work
together and produce a synergy that provides the outstanding health
and weight results.
How much
does the HRM program cost?
The cost of the program
is dependent on the level of medical supervision each client
requires. There is an initial one-time induction fee. The costs
throughout the program will include the costs of any medical visits
or procedures, class, and phone call support, and the required meal
replacements.
Will
insurance pay for the program?
Insurance coverage is
diagnosis dependent. Your insurance and diagnosis will be reviewed
to determine if insurance coverage is an option.
