How does the clinic-based program work?
The goal of the program is to help you
incorporate simple lifestyle changes to lose
weight and keep it off for a lifetime of better
health. Our program diets are highly structured
to make it easier for you to lose weight. The
diets use HMR® Shakes, HMR®
Entrees, HMR® Multigrain Hot Cereal
and HMR BeneFit® Bars, which are used
in place of meals and snacks. Research shows
that structured diets using meal replacements
are the most successful for weight loss and
long-term weight maintenance. Trained healthcare
professionals provide practical support through
weekly group sessions and individual phone
contact.
Why does this program use meal replacements?
The research is clear. More than 50 published
references show that people using meal
replacements lose and keep off, an average three
times more weight than those on conventional
diets. Meal replacements help clients take the
guesswork out of dieting, providing them with a
convenient and satisfying way to eat.
For example,
having a HMR® shake for breakfast
instead of a muffin and a HMR® entrée
with two servings of vegetables for dinner in
lieu of a typical fast food meal would save
someone approximately 1,600 calories a day.
Making these two simple changes once a week for
a year would result in a 2-4 pound weight loss.
What is
the calorie level?
Medically supervised
Decision-Free Diets
range from approximately 500–800 calories
per day or more. The
Healthy Solutions Diet
is approximately 1,200–1,600 calories per day or
more.
Why does HRM’s structured weight-loss program
work?
There are three simple reasons:
- The HRM
program focuses only on research-based
variables. Each of these variables
independently have been shown to have a direct
effect on successful weight loss and
maintenance. When practiced together, there is
an even more pronounced, cumulative effect.
- Losing and
keeping off weight is a skill, much like
learning to play an instrument or a new sport.
It is only logical, therefore, to approach
weight management with the same structure one
would apply to any new skill. That includes a
continuous cycle of lessons, practice, and
feedback. That’s exactly how the HRM program
is structured.
- HRM health
educators are highly trained professionals. To
supplement their past professional training,
all health educators receive intensive initial
training, and more than 25 hours of continuing
education each year.
How can I learn to eat in the “real world” with
meal replacements?
Eating in the “real world” is what has most
Americans overweight. HMR® meal
replacements are real food and are a healthier
way to eat, manage calories, lose weight, and
add more nutrition to one’s diet.
How do I get
started?
The first step to entering the HRM program is to
attend a free orientation. We will describe the
diet options available, program involvement,
medical supervision and cost and insurance.
After the informational session (orientation) we
can proceed with the next step and set up a HRM®
Clinical/Physical and enroll you in an upcoming
class. New classes start every month.
Can I purchase the meal replacements without
joining the program?
All HMR® meal replacement shakes,
cereal, entrees, and bars are available to the
public and can be purchased at The Austin
Diagnostic Clinic. However, we advise that
nobody attempts an all meal replacement very low
calorie diet without the appropriate medical
supervision. Or you may be interested in

Program.
Who will provide my medical supervision?
The Austin Diagnostic Clinic Endocrinologists
are specialized in the HRM program. They follow
a medical protocol, which includes routine
doctor visits, checking of vital signs, and the
appropriate lab work and EKG’s.
What are the levels of supervision?
 |
Moderate - BMI
25-29 |
 |
Intermediate -
BMI 30-34 |
 |
Supervised -
BMI 35 or higher - If a patient is
taking blood pressure medication, blood
thinner medication, or has diabetes they
will be considered a supervised patient. |
How do the levels of supervision differ from one
another?
 |
Moderate
patients have a weekly weigh-in, weekly
class and EKG as scheduled |
 |
Intermediate
patients have a weekly weigh-in, weekly
class, doctor visit monthly, labs and EKG as
scheduled |
 |
Supervised
patients have a weekly weigh-in, weekly
class, doctor visit monthly,
labs and EKG as scheduled |
Can I do the diet and receive medical
supervision without attending the classes?
The HRM program provides effective diets and
medical supervision. However, the lifestyle
adjustment that is necessary for individuals
losing weight and maintaining weight loss is
provided through the lifestyle and behavioral
education classes. All the program components
work together and produce a synergy that
provides the outstanding health and weight
results.
How
much does the HRM program cost?
The cost of the program is dependent on the
level of medical supervision each client
requires. There is an initial one-time material
supply fee. The costs throughout the program
will include the costs of any medical visits or
procedures, class, and phone call support, and
the required meal replacements.
Will insurance pay for the program?
Insurance coverage is diagnosis dependent. Your
insurance and diagnosis will be reviewed to
determine if insurance coverage is an option.
Please note insurance does not pay for meal
replacement products.
How is HMR® different from other
weight-loss programs?
The HMR® Program does not involve
fads, gimmicks, or theories about what “might”
work. We focus on research-tested strategies and
our programs are staffed by trained healthcare
professionals. Unlike other companies whose
biggest expense is often marketing, HMR®
invests most of its dollars in developing
high-quality programs so that participants can
do better. Nearly 80% of people in HMR®
programs have been referred by dieters who have
been through our programs or by medical
professionals who trust the quality of our work.
