Half of every man
over the age of fifty will have an enlarged prostate. By
the age of 80, 80% of all men will develop this condition,
also known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia – BPH. Enlarged
prostate represents one-quarter of every patient seen by an
urologist. More than 14 million men in the U.S. suffer from
this condition. Although not life threatening, it is
painful, embarrassing and does affect quality of life. Until
recently, urologists and patients were forced to make
significant compromises when choosing a BPH treatment.
Invasive surgical treatments carry higher risks and
complications, medications are costly and bothersome and
many heat treatments are not effective. Now there is a
simple laser treatment that delivers immediate and long
lasting relief of urinary symptoms, a dramatic improvement
in urinary flow with minimal risks and a short recovery
period without a catheter.

Prevalence
• Prostate diseases –
specifically inflammation, enlargement and cancer –
affect more than 20 million men in the U.S., the
majority over the age of 50. BPH Accounts for 25% of
patients seen by urologists
• Enlargement of the prostate, or BPH affects more then
14 million men in the U.S.
• More than half of all men in the U.S. age 50 and older
have BPH; that figure increases to more than 80% for men
80 years and older
• More than 140,000 men undergo invasive surgical
treatment for the condition
Enlarged Prostate
• Detected through urodynamic
studies, cystoscopy and diagnostic ultrasound of the
bladder
• Occurs during the natural aging process
• Symptoms include: frequent need to urinate, especially
at night, urgent need to urinate, painful urination,
difficulty starting urination, dribbling or leaking
after urination, the feeling that the bladder never
completely empties and a weak urine stream
