What is Rheumatology?
|
ADC’s
Rheumatologists have trained at some of the most prestigious
institutions in the world including The Mayo Clinic, The
Massachusetts General Hospital, Walter Reed Army Medical Center,
The Walter Reed Institute of Research and The University of
Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, Texas. ADC
Rheumatologists are all board certified in Internal Medicine and
Rheumatology. Our
physicians treat more than 100 types of arthritis, including
common diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis,
and rare diseases such as relapsing polychondritis and
multicentric reticulohistiocytosis. Additionally, ADC
Rheumatologists offer consultative and continuing care for
patients with:

Autoimmune, connective tissue, inflammatory and
musculoskeletal diseases. Special interests of physicians
include rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis,
systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, dermatomytosis,
Lyme Disease, and polymyositis, gout, systemic vasculitis
and the spondyloarthropathies including Reiter's syndrome,
psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and enteropathic
arthritis.

Skeletal disorders. Specialty interests include
osteoarthritis, Paget's disease of bone, osteoporosis and
osteomalacia.

Metabolic disorders that effect the musculoskeletal system
including Gout and pseudo gout.

Regional anatomic pain syndromes including knee pain, hip
pain, shoulder pain, bursitis, tendonitis, and low back
pain. Special tests and procedures performed include
arthrocentesis and therapeutic joint injections.

Rheumatology Section has expertise in:

Proficiency in the use of drug
therapies including:
The use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, disease
modifying drugs, biologic response modifiers,
glucocorticoids, antihyperuricemic drugs, and antibiotic
therapies for arthritic problems.

Examination of all joints,
periarticular structures and muscular units for:
Anatomical and functional abnormalities, to construct
differential diagnoses of symptom/sign complexes pertinent
to rheumatic diseases, and regarding the indications for
arthroscopy and total joint replacement.
