Octreoscan
(Octreotide Scans): 

Preparation:  Patient may eat prior to their exam time.  Patient must be well hydrated.  Patient should drink at least 2 to 3 glasses of water prior to their first appointment.  May empty bladder as needed.  They will be encouraged to continue drinking plenty of fluids during the procedure. 

Appointment Length

The first appointment involves injecting the radiotracer into a vein into the patient's arm.  This should only take 15 to 20 minutes. 

You will need to return 4 to 5 hours later for the first scan. 

You will then be required to return at 24-hours from the time of their first scan for the second set of images. 

Sometimes, a third set of images is required at 48-hours. 

Scan times are from 1 to 2 1/2 hours in duration.
