Myocardial Perfusion Scan with Pharmacological Stress
Also called Adenosine Cardiolite, Dobutamine Cardiolite,
or Persantine (Dipyridamole) Cardiolite.
Preparation:
Patient preparation requires nothing by mouth for a
minimum of 4 to 6 hours. Absolutely no caffeine or de-caf
products 24 hours prior to exam. This includes coffee,
tea, chocolate and colas. There are also some
medications that contain caffeine that should not be
taken. Some of the most common ones are Vanquish,
Excedrin, Caffergot, BC tablets and powder, Anacin,
Synalgos, COPE, Midol, Trigesic, Fiorinal, Floricet and
Esgic.
No
smoking or nicotine products the morning of the exam.
No
medications containing Aminophylline or Theophylline
36-48 hours prior to the exam.
If the
patient has any questions about their medications, they
should check with their physician or his nurse at least
72 hours prior to the exam.
What to
Bring:
Patient should bring their current medications or, a
list of them, to their appointment.
