Gastric
Emptying Time
Preparation:
Patient must be NPO at least 8 hours prior to exam.
This includes no medicine, water, or smoking.
Patient should be free of barium. Diabetics should
bring their insulin with them.
What to
Bring:
If at all possible, ask patient to bring one to two
slices of whole wheat bread with them.
What to
Expect:
The patient will be required to eat a scrambled egg.
Diabetics will take their insulin with this meal. If
you are unable to eat eggs, please notify Nuclear
Medicine prior to scheduling.
Appointment Length:
Exam time is approximately 2 hours.
