1131 Whole Body Thyroid
Cancer Scan (for Tumor Localization)
Preparation:
The patient should not have taken their thyroid hormone
replacement medication for at least 4 weeks prior to
their first appointment, unless the patient is being
prepped with thyrogen. Patient must not have had any
x-ray I.V. contrast material (IVP dye) at least 4 weeks
prior to their first appointment. If this is a patient
who has recently had their thyroid gland surgically
removed, their TSH level must be at least 40.
Appointment Length:
There are two appointment times.
The patient will swallow a
capsule during their first appointment. This
should only take 15 to
20 minutes.
They are then to
return 48-hours later for the scan.
Imaging
time is 45 minutes.
