What is a Gastroenterologist?
A gastroenterologist is a physician who specializes in disorders and conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach, esophagus, small and large bowel, intestines, liver, pancreas and associated organs. After completing their general medical education, they train for at least three (3) years to attain board certification in internal medicine. Gastroenterologists study specifically for conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, non-surgical treatments and endoscopic therapeutics.

Introducing New Gastroenterology Diagnostic Testing

The gastroenterology department is pleased to offer three new diagnostic tools designed to study the esophagus.

bullet Esophageal pH Impedance Studies: for patients with reflux who do not respond to the usual antacid treatments.

bullet Esophageal Manometry: an improvement over usual manometric studies which provides a more detailed view of the esophagus and how it functions.

bullet Small Bowel and Esophageal Capsule Endoscopy (Pill Cam): are typically used to diagnose patients suffering from esophageal disorders.  The capsule performs studies in the small bowel and esophagus.
