Joshua Crum M.D., specializes in arthroscopy and the
treatment of all adult and pediatric sports related
injuries, as well as open and arthroscopic treatment of
the knee, ankle, shoulder, and elbow. He performs joint
replacement for arthritis of the hip, knee, and
shoulder, as well as general orthopedics and fracture
care. In addition he has been trained in the treatment
of cartilage injuries in the knee with osteochondral
transfer and autologous chondrocyte implantation. He
maintains a special interest in the throwing athlete.
A
native of St. Paul, Minnesota, he graduated summa cum
laude from the University of Minnesota with a
bachelors of science in Biochemistry. He received his
medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 2002,
followed by residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at
the University of Wisconsin. He completed his
Orthopedic residency in 2007 and then completed an
Orthopedic Sports Medicine fellowship with Dr. James R.
Andrews, M.D. and William G. Clancy M.D. at the American
Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) in Birmingham, Alabama.
During his fellowship at ASMI, Dr. Crum helped take care
of athletes of all levels, from youth players to
professional athletes. He covered Troy University
football and athletics, Vestavia and Mountainbrook high
school football teams, as well as the Birmingham
Barron’s minor league baseball team.
Dr.
Crum has contributed to the research of Orthopedics and
Sports Medicine. He has published several articles on
posterolateral corner knee injuries, investigated tendon
biomechanics after hand fractures, and did clinical
research on ulnar collateral ligament injuries in
baseball players. He holds memberships to the American
Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic
Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association
of North America, and the American Sports Medicine
Fellowship Society.
