October 18 is World Menopause Day.

Menopause can affect nearly half of the world’s population through health and quality-of-life challenges, so menopause matters. It’s an opportunity for women to evaluate their health and make lifestyle changes.

Menopause happens, on average, around age 51, but the physical signs and menopause transition can go on for years, causing many changes to the body.

Recently, The Austin Diagnostic Clinic hosted a free Health Matters seminar to separate menopause facts from myths. More than 30 women attended this talk, presented by Dr. Mary Gasal, and were able to ask questions about how to manage this stage of life.

Highlights from Dr. Gasal’s talk can be seen here.

The North American Menopause Society has a wealth of information about menopause. For further information, you can also visit the doctors at ADC’s Menopause & Osteoporosis Center.
